All In The Name Of Religion

Tel Aviv, Israel - A man stripped down to nothing but a strategically placed sock at a Tel Aviv supermarket in protest at its decision to sell bread over Passover in violation of Jewish religious laws.
The Haredi yeshiva student Aryeh Yerushalmi stripped nearly naked in a supermarket in Tel Aviv to protest the sale of hametz (bread and other leavened grain products) in the store during Passover.

Now it is well documented that I'm an Atheist so I'm not really up to speed on these rituals, traditions and laws you crazy religious folk have. But I must say this seems a little over the top. If it is against your religions 'law' to sell bread during Passover I'm pretty sure your Gods aren't in favor of running around a store naked. Am I missing something here? And would somebody please tell me what 'hametz' is? It sounds horrible.
