Ruined plans?

A Carbon County man charged with attempted homicide for pulling a gun on a police officer during a traffic stop Sunday later told police they ''ruined his plans'' to rob a convenience store and wait for police at a strip club, according to court records.

In addition to attempted homicide, Stephen Garger, 34, of 612 Apple St., Bowmanstown, faces numerous charges including assault, drunken driving and carrying a weapon without a license. He is in Northampton County Prison under $500,000 bail.

During his arraignment Sunday, Garger said he's never been in trouble with the law, according to paperwork filed before District Judge Ralph Litzenberger of Palmer Township.

The officer, Lehigh Township Detective Robert Hawke, was not injured during the brief standoff, police said.

According to court records:

Shortly before 1 a.m., Hawke spotted Garger's car driving at 60 mph along state Route 248 in a 40-mph zone.

Garger's eyes were bloodshot and he smelled of alcohol and submitted to a portable breath testing device, Hawke said.

Garger agreed to a field sobriety test and as Hawke was giving him instructions, Garger pulled out a loaded .38-caliber gun from his waistband.

Garger cocked the hammer and put his hand on the trigger and told Hawke, ''You ruined my plans.''

Hawke took cover behind his cruiser and pulled out his handgun, ordering Garger numerous times to drop his gun. After a brief standoff, Garger threw his gun onto the road and it was nearly run over by a passing vehicle.

While interviewed by police, Garger said he planned to rob the A-Plus market in Bath and wait for police at a strip club

Police said Garger's blood-alcohol content was 0.17 percent.

Come on with a .17 B.A.C?? That's only double the legal limit. I am pretty sure Mikey T has a standing .15 AT ALL TIMES. This dude with his blood shot eyes and bitching like a baby that the police ruined his plans is a douche. Listen Stephen Granger here is a little advice - If you want to rob a convenience store, I would suggest that being bombed and speeding is something that should wait till after you have done the deed. Pulling the gun out is just something that a spoiled child would do during a temper tantrum.
