A 15-year-old Forrest High School student, angry that his mother ordered him to get off the couch because he was wet, attacked her repeatedly with a butcher knife Tuesday afternoon, police reported.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office incident report, police called to a home on Leroy Drive found 49-year-old Barbara Gail O’Brien locked in a bathroom, covered in blood Tuesday afternoon. She told police she had been attacked by her adopted son.
Police arrested the boy at the nearby home of his biological parents.
He told police he was sitting on the couch watching TV when his mother yelled at him to get off because he was wet, the police report said.
He then picked up a butcher knife, followed her to the back of the house and began stabbing her repeatedly, he told police. After the knife broke, she was able to flee to the bathroom and lock the door.
He grabbed a hammer and tried to kick in the door, he told police. Then he took his mother’s keys and drove her car to the home of his biological parents, where he was arrested.
His mother was listed in fair condition at Shands Jacksonville on Thursday.
