YARMOUTH - A Yarmouth man who has been convicted of drunken driving nine times is being held without bail after his 15th drunken driving arrest.

William Rose pleaded not guilty to charges including operating under the influence and driving without a license at his arraignment in Barnstable District Court today. He is being held pending a dangerousness hearing Aug. 13.

Yarmouth police spokesman Lt. Steve Xiarhos said the 59-year-old Rose was stopped as he drove the wrong way on an exit off Route 28 at about 1:30 a.m on this morning.

Rose has a hardship license so he can get to work, but Xiarhos said the license is valid only between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Rose’s attorney, Paul DeCenzo, says his client is allowed to drive during an emergency, and was responding to a call from a friend whose car had broken down.
