NHL playoffs

I debated back and forth about writing a hockey playoffs/Stanley cup post. I mean does anyone care(about the post NOT about hockey)?

Doesn’t every one have their own opinions? People do need something to read.

Finally I figured that it’s a nice Wednesday and I should write something, so here it is:

Eastern Conference Quarterfinals

Series A - #1 Washington Capitals vs. #8 Montreal Canadiens

On paper this looks like a cake walk for Washington. They are the top team in hockey. Their offensive prowess overcomes their lack of a great goalie. I just don’t think that the Cuntnadians will go down without a fight. Price or Halak can steal you games.

Caps in 6

Series B - #2 New Jersey Devils vs. #7 Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers almost got eliminated from playoff contention but Brian Boucher beat the mighty Henrik Lundquist in a shootout Sunday so here we sit.

The Devils have the games best goalie ever. The Flyers have a 3rd string goalie starting that played with Matty Koahnsky. The Flyers have the Devils number beating them 5 out of 6 times. The Cinderella season continues…

Flyers in 7

Series C - #3 Buffalo Sabres vs. #6 Boston Bruins

The Bruins are hot right now. I feel like they have been playing playoff hockey ever since that shit show against the Penguins. They are 4-2 against Buffalo this year. That being said, the Sabres have this years most consistent goalie and possible MVP candidate in Ryan Miller(who looks very waif). They are starting to get healthy at the right time. No doubt this series is going 7.

Bruins in 7

Series D - #4 Pittsburgh Penguins vs. #5 Ottawa Senators

I am unsure about this match up. The Sens have rebounded nicely this year after last years debacle. Alex Kovalev getting hurt is not helping the Sens. Brain Elliot actually played very well but can he steal a game let alone a series? How much will Crosby whine this series? How tired are the Penguins after back to back runs to the Stanley cup? I feel that this will get dragged out…Go Sens Go!

Senators in 7

Western Conference Quarterfinals

Series E - #1 San Jose Sharks vs #8 Colorado Avalanche

The Avs have overachieved all year long. They were very close to not making the playoffs(if Calgary played beat who they were supposed to) at all. They are a young inexperienced team. The Sharks have been on cruise control most of the season. They turn it on when they want. They also have Dany Heatly, he killed a man.

Sharks in 5

Series F - #2 Chicago Blackhawks vs. #7 Nashville Predators

I can’t even bullshit about this one. I do not know anyone who plays for the Predators. I couldn’t name one guy. That being said The Blackhawks have goalie issues and are still dealing with Brian Campbell’s injury. But they also have my man Duncan Keith. They should have no problems beating these Preds.

Blackhawks in 4

Series G - #3 Vancouver Canucks vs. #6 Los Angeles Kings

Don’t you do it to me Roberto Luongo. Don’t you go and disappear on me in these playoffs. I can’t explain what happens to him come crunch time even though he won Olympic gold this year. The Kings are a feisty group that won’t quit. If their goalie gets hot they can make it all the way to the Finals.

Canucks in 6

Series H - #4 Phoenix Coyotes vs. #5 Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings are RED HOT! Smoking Hot! I wouldn’t want to play them right now. It sucks to be the Coyotes. By the way Arizona should not have a hockey team. May as well relocate them to Nebraska in a cornfield.

Red Wings in 5

After each round I will update each match up and how they each fare.

At the beginning of the season, I picked 6 out of 8 Eastern teams to make they playoffs and 4 out of the 8 Western conference teams. 10 out of 16 isn’t bad.

Week 11 Darts Update

We began week 11 with 62 points. The 1st place team is running away with the division with 76 points, 2nd place is catch able with 69 points, and we were struggling to hold on to a 3rd place. Tonight we played against the 5th place team who was just 3 points behind us. Due to a slight coaching error we went to the wrong bar to start the evening. We had over 40 tunes lined up in the machine and we were all warming up on the board to get a feel of the venue and about 8:00 the mistake was realized. No harm was done as we made it to The St. Marks Post in time. All I can say is Welcome to the smokiest bar in Boston!

This was a critical match that would either put us in a position to not worry about making the playoffs, or force us to keep grinding it out for every point the rest of the way. We were really set-up for a chance to put some distance between 4th and the rest of the league, and although all of the matches were very close, we failed.

601's 0-2
Cricket's 1-2
301's 3-3
Final Score = 4-7

The end result of tonight's match is that we are now probably tied for the 4th and final spot in the play-off spot. While this might look bad, we still have 3 weeks to go and in the next few matches we are playing against a few of the the poorer teams in the league, so we should be able to make a legit charge.

I know a few people look forward to my weekly entries, so I will apologize ahead of time that I have to pass the blog torch to DW for next week's update. I will be taking a week off to spend some time in Florida with the family.

Week 12 we are playing against the team out of The Centre bar playing. Bob V. will be traveling cross country and I will be in giving all my $$ to Mickey Mouse so please come down and cheer on the boys. They'll need all the support they can get.

Only 2 quotes made the memorable list tonight and here they are:
"I own that F'n Viking" ...and by the way, yes really I do!
"That's OK, just call me Peppermint Patty" this came from the woman who just won the first competitive dart match that she has ever played.
Well Done!

I'd like to pass on a final word of advice to Derek's readers:
You may think MW might not know about too many bar tricks because he is off the sauce, but never underestimate his skills. 2 for 2 in late night BS bar tricks will win you money all day long and we didn't even move on to the pool table. As the old saying goes, "Never take a bet in a bar from someone that says "I'll bet you I can..." - Or - "Are you willing to put a few bucks on...?" Any fool knows they wouldn't make the offer unless they can pull it off!

See you in a few weeks,
Prez

Its finally here...

You all knew that as soon as the Double Down came out for the masses that I would have to try it. After a long day of boozing yesterday, I was dieing to get a greasy breakfast sandwich but I didn't. I was saving myself for this great food concoction - 2 chicken breasts, 2 types of cheese, 2 pieces of bacon and something called the "Colonel Sauce". A greasy chicken sandwich without the bread.

I stared at it in disbelief before I sunk my teeth into it. It was a salty chickeny cheesy saucy bite of heaven. I scarfed it down in 4 1/2 bites. On a scale of 1-10 I give it an 8.89! It probably would of received a perfect 10 if the cheese was a little more melted. I loved the boneless chicken breast. The bacon was crispy and not greasy. The sauce was spicy yet comforting. I highly recommend you stop home today and get yourself one. It even comes with the grilled chicken breast.

The Suns shining...

After a nice weekend in New York City visiting friends, I feel refreshed. After a long battle all season long the Bruins have not only made the playoffs but clinched 6th place. More on this in a bit.

Lets see what I learned this weekend:
1. Male sea lions can have up to 50 lady friends. They are pimps of the sea!
2. Dunkin Donuts now serves a tuna cheddar melt on a croissant.
3. I think Smiddys been taking some estrogen or something because he is acting like a little bitch.
4. The Central Park Zoo is a nice quaint zoo.
5. Brazilian steak houses, where they have all you can eat meat carved at your table, are the shit. How have I never been to one before??
6. They no longer have the shrimp taco available at Taco Bell. I never got my review.
7. I don't know no body in Yonkers but they have a new casino/race way now.
8. They have an ESPN America channel? How is it that I am just now hearing about this?
9. I loved Madison Square Garden. It has a nice old school feel to it.

10. The drive to and from NYC was a lot smoother than I anticipated.
11. The world needs more White Castles.
12. Bushwick streets are trashy. Like no one throws trash away in barrels. They just drop it in the gutters.

I am sure there is plenty more that I just can't remember at this time. Don't forget the Double Down comes out today at KFC

Carlsberg

Beer policy prompts Carlsberg strike

COPENHAGEN — Scores of Carlsberg workers walked off their jobs in protest yesterday after the Danish brewer tightened rules on workplace drinking and removed beer coolers from worksites, a company spokesman said.

The warehouse and production workers in Denmark are rebelling against the company’s new alcohol policy, which allows them to drink beer only during lunch hours in the canteen. Previously, they could help themselves to beer throughout the day, from coolers at worksites.

The only restriction was “that you could not be drunk at work,’’ said Jens Bekke, company spokesman.

Carlsberg had considered a stricter drinking policy for years and decided to impose the new rules April 1, prompting protests from the staff.

Bekke said around 800 workers went on strike Wednesday and some 250 walked off their jobs yesterday, resulting in interruptions to beer transports.

Carlsberg’s truck drivers joined the strike in sympathy — even though they are exempt from the new rules, Bekke said. The truck drivers are permitted to bring three beers from the canteen.

The trucks have alcohol ignition locks preventing the drivers from driving drunk, he added.

-Thanks Julie

Man before this new rule went into effect it seems that Carlsberg was the place to work. Drinking on the job. Anytime you wanted just cracking brews. I wonder what kind of drinking tolerance these cats have. Casually having beers throughout the day.

Week 10 Darts update

We started week 10 in 2nd place still 10 points out of 1st place. The team we played tonight was a pretty good team and is currently in 6th place.
We started the match by splitting the 601's 1-1
We then got swept in cricket (cowardly opponents pointed the shit out of us) 0-3
Closed the match winning 5 of the 6 singles match 5-1
Overall win of 6-5 which should keep us in the top 3 or 4 in our division.
It's like we are the Bruins. Not playing well, but just good enough to stay in the playoff chase.

There were many greats Quotes and here are a few including some very late entries:
We are playing those F'n chair throwers.
I ain't your brother.
Your black and he's Chinese so there is nothing going on here.
Beware of the moose in Baxter St. Park.
Those thing are huge and they stink like shit.
She smells like a French whore...like a good French whore.
Is his old lady going to make the blog tonight?
Some random black dude outside Peggy's just asked me for a condom.

Now for some positive feedback:
Jeff showed his loyalty by leaving a tied Sox / Yankees game in the 5th to drink with the boys. The beats were way above average and no downloads were required, and we beat the shit out of the suck which started with $57 carry over from last week and ended with less than $15.

I hope to see you all next week as we enter the last quarter of the season playing an away match at the Centre bar.

5 days away...

Last August I wrote about the double down at KFC.

http://www.drunknothings.com/2009/08/double-down-bitches.html

At that time, I was upset that it wasn't coming to Boston, well guess what NOW IT IS! In 5 days!!

I promise to buy one, eat it and review it on April 12th. I will take pictures and catalog every bite. I will also pray that I don't have a heart attach soon thereafter.

- Thanks Kristine for the heads up

By the way I am looking for a review for the shrimp taco from Taco Bell. I don't eat shrimp or I would of fucked up about 12 of them! Who will step up to the plate?

Text of the week:

Here is the inaugural Text of the week:

I know it was opening nite & a late one at that. but the blog CANT take mondays off. "things i learned" is the #1 post & ur depriving people of their rights!

Should I post who it is from or let people guess?

Tipsy Tuesdays

I know that I usually post things I learned this weekend on Mondays. But when I take the day off, or extending my weekend by one more day, that means the shit gets posted on Tuesdays. I know it can be frustrating but I refuse to turn my home computer on when I wake up hungover from the Red Sox game. Deal with it.

This is what I learned this weekend:
1. Apparently you can get anything on the back of a Red Sox Jersey:

2. Neil Diamond singing "Sweet Caroline" in person is kinda crazy.
3. Yankee fans don't wash their hands but they do run them under the Xelerator to dry the piss off.
4. Is this a lazy or genius way to stain your deck:

5. Squares for the Final Four and the Championship game, always make the games more interesting.
6. Every Friday night home Red Sox game WFNX will be giving away tickets to that game at the Baseball Tavern, all year long.
7. Apparently litterbugs DO STILL EXIST! Didn't really know that.
8. Not everyone knows about the catcalls at the FENS - be careful and cautious of the same sex catcalls coming from the brush.
9. The Line for Remys new place was beyond ridiculous.
10. Even the homeless pluck their eyebrows - no one wants to rock a unibrow.
11. Hugh Hefner has a plot picked out and paid for next to Marilyn Munroe.
12. I can't keep up with all these designer dogs - MORKIES - Maltese/Yorkies?
13. How can people take 5 Red Sox Fridge magnets? Do you people have 5 fridges?
14. The seats were ok for the game:

15. It is $4.00 more per ticket for a 3D movie.
16. Just found out about http://www.candobetter.com/ . This is brilliant. I may add it to the side list of websites I visit.

As always I will try to do better with writing and keeping up with the blog. Starting today and every Tuesday from here on out I am going to post the text of the week. A random text that I receive during the week.

Auction Item

Alright you cheap bastards it's time to open up the wallet to support a charity that has become very important me over the past few months. To do my part I'm going to put up for auction an authenticate Philadelphia Eagles McNabb jersey.

I'll open the bidding at $50.00. Buyer beware...I cannot confirm authenticity of the jersey.

Oh yeah, I forgot the most important part....what's the charity! Well, I like to call it the Iggles Home Rebuilding Charity and I can guarantee all proceeds will go towards fixing my house.

And for a limited time only the first bidder will receive a framed photo of McNabb puking, signed by none other than McNabb. Again...buyer beware...I cannot confirm the photo is signed, framed, or even if the photo exists.

Let the bidding begin!
