Are you Kidding me

Best headline ever: Eddie Guardado traded for hamburger
By David Brown
It doesn't get much better than this. Left-handed reliever Eddie Guardado has just been traded from Texas to Minnesota for a hamburger — minor-league pitcher Mark Hamburger, that is.

Six immediate reactions to this news:

1. Cheese, you've got to be kidding me!

2. Did the Rangers get fries with that?

3. Mmm, Guardado.

4. Some Twinkies, a Hamburger, let's do lunch!

5. The Twins will gladly take Guardado to close on Tuesday for a Hamburger today

6. Prince and CC want to know why the Brewers couldn't have pulled this trade off.

The Happy Meal Deal also brings to mind other players who are named after food.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK!!

Sometimes, when I drive across the desert in the middle of the night, with no other cars around, I start imagining: What if there were no civilization out there? No cities, no factories, no people? And then I think: No people or factories? Then who made this car? And this highway? And I get so confused I have to stick my head out the window into the driving rain---unless there's lightning, because I could get struck on the head by a bolt.

9-year-old boy told he's too good to pitch

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Nine-year-old Jericho Scott is a good baseball player -- too good, it turns out.

The right-hander has a fastball that tops out at about 40 mph. He throws so hard that the Youth Baseball League of New Haven told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more. When Jericho took the mound anyway last week, the opposing team forfeited the game, packed its gear and left, his coach said.

Officials with the Youth Baseball League of New Haven say they will disband Jericho Scott's team because his coach won't stop him from pitching.

Officials for the three-year-old league, which has eight teams and about 100 players, said they will disband Jericho's team, redistributing its players among other squads, and offered to refund $50 sign-up fees to anyone who asks for it. They say Jericho's coach, Wilfred Vidro, has resigned.

But Vidro says he didn't quit and the team refuses to disband. Players and parents held a protest at the league's field on Saturday urging the league to let Jericho pitch.

"He's never hurt any one," Vidro said. "He's on target all the time. How can you punish a kid for being too good?"

The controversy bothers Jericho, who says he misses pitching.

"I feel sad," he said. "I feel like it's all my fault nobody could play."

Jericho's coach and parents say the boy is being unfairly targeted because he turned down an invitation to join the defending league champion, which is sponsored by an employer of one of the league's administrators.

Jericho instead joined a team sponsored by Will Power Fitness. The team was 8-0 and on its way to the playoffs when Jericho was banned from pitching.

"I think it's discouraging when you're telling a 9-year-old you're too good at something," said his mother, Nicole Scott. "The whole objective in life is to find something you're good at and stick with it. I'd rather he spend all his time on the baseball field than idolizing someone standing on the street corner."

League attorney Peter Noble says the only factor in banning Jericho from the mound is his pitches are just too fast.

"He is a very skilled player, a very hard thrower," Noble said. "There are a lot of beginners. This is not a high-powered league. This is a developmental league whose main purpose is to promote the sport."

Noble acknowledged that Jericho had not beaned any batters in the co-ed league of 8- to 10-year-olds, but say parents expressed safety concerns.

"Facing that kind of speed" is frightening for beginning players, Noble said.

League officials say they first told Vidro that the boy could not pitch after a game on Aug. 13. Jericho played second base the next game on Aug. 16. But when he took the mound Wednesday, the other team walked off and a forfeit was called.

League officials say Jericho's mother became irate, threatening them and vowing to get the league shut down.

"I have never seen behavior of a parent like the behavior Jericho's mother exhibited Wednesday night," Noble said.

Scott denies threatening any one, but said she did call the police.

League officials suggested that Jericho play other positions, or pitch against older players or in a different league.

Local attorney John Williams was planning to meet with Jericho's parents Monday to discuss legal options.

"You don't have to be learned in the law to know in your heart that it's wrong," he said. "Now you have to be punished because you excel at something?"

So let me get this right, I have been on a 4 day bender and can't really wrap my mind around this whole situation, This 9 year old child can throw a baseball faster than most kids at the age of 9 - so he cant play? Makes about as much sense as tits on a bull. The parents of the children that are afraid for saftey concerns should be told that that they are raising PUSSYS!!!

I thought we were taught to teach children to try and be the best that they can be. I hate Connecticut. This is the 2nd time I wrote about these bitch ass parents complaining about kids. The first time they bitched about the kids cleaning up a vacant lot to play softball now THIS.

Connecticut is nicknamed the Constitution state...doesn't seem like it!! Maybe we could rename it the Pussy State? Or the Cry Baby state? Or the BUNCHABITCHES state!

Its a 8 man competition.

Welchie has made it clear that he will take any and all bets against his boy Jimmy "Two Thumbs". Smiddy has taken him up on that - $100.00 bucks!!

Come on down and support your friends/contestants/eaters. At the very least support your local bartenders.

Just a side note:

According to Restaurant Business magazine, low cost dining spots like wing joints have become some of the country’s fastest-growing chains. Cincinnati-based Buffalo Wings & Rings is now the nation's fastest-growing franchised restaurant.

Several recent surveys have confirmed that tighter food budgets are causing more consumers to seek out less expensive dining options. But, folding wings into your dining lineup too frequently could lead to a seriously expanding waistline. Here’s the low down on the calorie counts of several popular wing spots:

* Lone Star, chicken wings appetizer: 1,759 calories
* Applebees, 1 order boneless Buffalo wings, 1,724 calories
* Zaxby’s, large order wings & things, 1,673 calories
* Wingstop, 10 Cajun wings, 1,590 calories
* Old Chicago, best Buffalo chicken wings, 1,562 calories
* Chi-Chi’s, 1 order Tex-Mex BBQ wings, 1,421 calories
* Chili’s, boneless Buffalo wings, 1,250 calories
* Hooters, 5 chicken wings, 866 calories
* Pizza Hut, 10 hot wings, 600 calories
* KFC, 1 order of 5 boneless fiery Buffalo wings, 420 calories

Most adult women need about 1,600 calories a day and men (who are usually taller and have more muscle) 1,800 – 2,000. That means a single wing order can provide a quarter to well over 100% of the calories needed in an entire day. Not to mention the fact that each wing contains 1 gram of artery clogging saturated fat not including the blue cheese.

Thirsty Thursday - Quote of The Week

In Honor of Thirsty Thursday I will have a quote of the week:
Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed - Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."
-Deep Thought, Jack Handey

Ninja' student slays teen with sword

A QUIET high school pupil donned a macabre ninja-like outfit before slaying a fellow student with a sword in South Africa.
His face painted black, wearing a home-made mask and wielding a sword resembling a samurai, the teenager went on a violent spree killing a 16-year-old boy and injuring two school gardeners.

Police spokesman Captain Jacob Raboroko said the killing took place early yesterday before the Nic Diederichs Technical High School in Krugersdorp on the western outskirts of Johannesburg held its daily assembly.

Experts agree the latest tragedy is one of many showing an increase in violent incidents in the country's schools.

"It is horrifying. The incident further shows that violence in South African schools is a real problem and people, especially parents, are worried about it," the director of South Africa's Centre for Justice and Crime Prevention (CJCP), Eric Pelser said.

Education expert Graeme Bloch of the Development Bank of South Africa said it showed South Africans were living in a "very violent society".

"It is an extreme situation, also underlying the general problems facing our youth: problems of identity, confidence in the future, abuse of drugs and breakdown of family's moral system."

A recent study by the CJCP, released in April, said violence in the country's schools was "embedded in the broader violent South African environment".

Official statistics indicate that at least 50 murders are committed in South Africa every day, while child murders increased 22.4 per cent between March 2007 and April 2008.

The CJCP research, carried out between 2006 and 2007 in conjunction with the department of education, showed that 15.3 per cent of students in primary and secondary schools, or 1.8 million pupils, had been victims at some point of violence such as assault, sexual harassment or assault, rape or robberies.

More than 88,000 pupils in high schools across the Gauteng province, which includes Johannesburg and Pretoria, had experienced violence in schools, adds the report titled Merchants, Skollies and Stones, the first such study in the country.

According to the study, children engaged in violence due to drug or alcohol use, exposure to violence, easy access to weapons and criminal role models, including parents and environment.
In schools, up to 64 per cent of pupils had easy access to alcohol, 25.3 per cent drugs and 62 per cent to guns, the report said.

The head of Gauteng education, Angie Motshekga, who is also the leader of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) women's league, said she was "taken aback" at the killing of the year nine pupil.

"This is traumatic. Parents leave their children with us in schools and expect to find them in one piece," she told teachers and pupils during a visit to the school, according to SAPA news agency.
----------------------------------------------------------
I read this and thought two things:
NINJA do exist and they are AWESOME!!
What the fuck is going on with the youth of the world...I mean child murders are up almost 23%?? Is it that bad that you get your Samurai sword and start slicing motherfuckers?

Whoopings

Where to begin??

This just goes to show you SHIT HAPPENS...

The Red Sox got WHOOPED this weekend by the Blue Jays. I mean a major ass whooping. Two games and outscored 19-5.

The Pats didn't fare any better losing 27-10 to Tampa Bay. I know its only preseason but in 2 games the Pats secondary got torched by Kyle Boeller and Brian Greise not exactly stud quarterbacks!

We lost our playoff softball game, 5-4. I was not able to play, due to being stuck at work. Dice-K(ristine) pitched well enough for a win in her 1st start of the season. The bats decided to go take the rest of the summer off...lets hope we get to play one more season. "LET THEM PLAY! LET THEM PLAY!"

Mikeys/Jeffs suprise 40th was a blast. Lots of drinking, plenty of bull shitting and tons of laughs. Man nothing is better than a good old fashion TIME at Florian hall.

Still have no takers for the FREE EDDIE MONEY SHOW AT MOHEGAN SUN this Thursday - I got 2 tickets to paradise!

One giant turd !

Flying piece of art causes museum chaos in Switzerland

Mon Aug 11, 3:26 PM ET

A giant inflatable dog turd by American artist Paul McCarthy blew away from an exhibition in the garden of a Swiss museum, bringing down a power line and breaking a greenhouse window before it landed again, the museum said Monday.

The art work, titled "Complex S(expletive..)", is the size of a house. The wind carried it 200 metres (yards) from the Paul Klee Centre in Berne before it fell back to Earth in the grounds of a children's home, said museum director Juri Steiner.

The inflatable turd broke the window at the children's home when it blew away on the night of July 31, Steiner said. The art work has a safety system which normally makes it deflate when there is a storm, but this did not work when it blew away.

Steiner said McCarthy had not yet been contacted and the museum was not sure if the piece would be put back on display.

They actually research this stuff?

For the first time, scientists have proven that "beer goggles" are real - other people really do look more attractive to us if we have been drinking.

Surprisingly, the beer goggles effect was not limited to just the opposite sex among the ostensibly straight volunteers recruited for the study - they also rated people from their own sex as more attractive.

Scientists in England gave 84 heterosexual college students chilled lime-flavored drinks that were either non-alcoholic or given a dose of vodka equivalent in alcohol to a large glass of wine or a pint-and-a-half of beer.

After 15 minutes, the volunteers were shown photos of 40 other college students from both sexes. Both men and women who drank booze found these faces more attractive, "a roughly 10 percent increase in ratings of attractiveness," said researcher Marcus Munafo, an experimental psychologist at the University of Bristol in England.

The researchers also asked volunteers to rate their mood, "and there were no differences on those measures in the alcohol group compared to the no-alcohol group," Munafo added. "This suggests that the effect we observed wasn't due to a general change in mood."

It did not escape Munafo that the results are rather obvious.

"Everyone knows about beer goggles," Munafo said. "But some of our results suggest that there's more going on than we might have thought."

The discovery that the effect is not specific to the opposite sex was surprising. One possibility is that alcohol generally makes us see things as more attractive, but when this occurs in social situations, such as at a bar, "this might become targeted at opposite-sex faces," Munafo said. By repeating the experiment with video clips shot at bars, the scientists hope to recreate those social cues and see what happens.

"The main question is whether these effects are specific to faces, or whether we would rate anything as more attractive after a drink," Munafo said.

Future research could expose people who have been drinking to landscapes or the faces of puppies and other animals, "to see if alcohol has a more general effect on perceiving beauty in the environment."

Low dose

"It's also surprising to see this effect is happening at lower doses than you might think," Munafo said. "We're trying to build up a more complete picture of what happens when people go out for a drink, and we're interested in certain behaviors that are more common after drinking, such as unsafe sex, or violence. If this effect is happening at lower doses than expected, it might be helpful for people who are predisposed to such behaviors to anticipate those situations and prevent them."

I for one have been a victim of "Beer Goggles" a few times in my life. I am happy to see that someone is finally working to eradicate this dreadful disease.
