Im not apologizing

I tried all day yesterday to update this blog but no luck. Seems like IT was putting the kibosh on it. Well after some digging around... LOOK AT ME NOW! You can slow me down but ya can't hold me down.

This is what I learned this weekend:
1. The Bruins band wagoneers didn't show up until this Penguins series, and I think that was just to gloat if the B's lost.
2. You ever try to do some fancy dance moves in an elevator? Feels weird, kinda like when you jump in one.
3. Congrats to Mike and Kate on their bouncy baby boy.
4. I am indifferent to the whole Pats signing Tebow but I can not wait till everyone who hated the move are all of a sudden pumped IF he does well. BUNCHA HYPOCRITES.
5. Uncle Ronnie is banging out Jeffreys second floor addition at a record pace.
6. Jeb has a 65 lb pig for the roast. June 22nd can not come fast enough.
7. Joe Q and TK are like the 2 old guys in the muppets.
8. Jeff was like a kid at a candy store at the Bs game.
9. Building an outdoor water fountain for the dogs was not that hard.
10. This year is fucking flying by.
11. People are pissed about this whole Duxbury beach fiasco.
12. How much would you pay to name Chrissys new baby?
13. When will this fucking weather make up its mind? Hot, cold, hot, hot, hot, cold, cold, hot, rain, rain, rain, more god damn rain. What about some warm days mother nature?
14. Should I be offended when my wife tells me I all of a sudden look skinny?
15. Cajun chicken broccoli and ziti from Blasis is the shit.
16. I will probably flip out on you of you try and give me a boiled hot dog.
17. Oh and pretty much if you say anything you are going to offend anyone.
18. Is it just me or does Toucher and Rich seem to have more and longer commercial breaks in the 6 O'clock hour?
19. I don't care who you are getting tweeted at or retweeted by the Boston Media feels pretty good.
20. Don't forget the Bruins playoff tickets are going on sale at noon today.
21. Breyers makes a Samoa girl scout cookie ice cream. It is fucking awesome.

Hopefully next Monday we will all be feeling good with these Stanley Cup Finals.

A few good reasons to...

Booze this weekend:

1. The Bruins playoffs start tonight at the Garden. Game 1 vs the Caps. I hope Ovechkin goes home crying.
2. The Boston Beer Summit.
3. Red Sox kick off the home opener and probably one of many 100 year celebrations  on Friday.
4. Bruins playoff game 2 at 3:00 on Saturday.
5. If you are into soccer the NE Revolution are playing the DC United.
6. Sunday it is supposed to be nice so rest up.
7. One of my favorite drinking days of the year - Marathon Monday. Sox game starts at 11:00 am so the beers start at 9.

That's a quick 7 pack of reasons to get ya drank on.

The reason I am posting this today is because my weekend starts at 3:00. If you are around Fenway I'll be at the Baseball Tavern before the game tomorrow and Monday. Saturday I'll be kicking it at the North Star before the Bruins game with MikeyT and Rio (and his mystery guest). As always shots are encouraged, drinks are recommended and beers are a must!

Bandwagon Bruins Fans ...

Since we were running the Wanna B's list throughout this blog 2 years ago but dropped it during this past season I thought that I would share this letter from NESN :

Dear Bruins bandwagon (fans),

It was nice seeing you on Saturday. You showed up to the tune of 1.5 million people on the streets of Boston to celebrate the Stanley Cup's return to Boston. I've never seen so much black and gold in my life, nor have I seen so much energy and passion for this team.
That energy and passion is what I want to discuss. At the core of the Bruins' fan base is a fervently loyal group with unmatched energy and passion for the team. Saturday, you showed that same energy and passion, and it was an amazing experience.

It doesn't matter when you became a fan. Everyone has to start somewhere. There's no shame in becoming a fan during a Cup run. It's hard not to get sucked in by something as intense as playoff hockey.

What does matter is what you do now. I hope that you will take the time to learn more about both the game and the team. It's not really that hard. You can go on YouTube and watch Bruins videos from the recent and distant past. There's plenty of Bruins history on the Internet that you can read up on. There are so many ways to learn about this team and so much to learn.

Hockey is a tough sport to understand, but the best way to start is to watch as much as you can. Head to your local rink for some summer hockey or, if you prefer, go back to YouTube. It takes a while, but it's worth it.

My last suggestion is to make your way to the TD Garden for a game next year. It's a different experience from any other sports venue in town. Most times, going to Fenway becomes a social event. The game becomes a vehicle to have a nice night out. Gillette has become more and more like that, though just like at Fenway, there are still some tremendously passionate fans there. But the Garden is smaller than both of those places, and it packs more energy into a smaller space. If you've been to a Celtics game recently, you know this.

When you go to the Garden, bring that same passion and energy you brought with you on Saturday. The team feeds off the crowd's energy. Don't look at it as a night out. Focus more on the game than on the night in general. And please, no pink hats or shirts or jerseys. I was overjoyed not to see any on Saturday.

Regardless of what you do, the core fan base will always be there. But I hope that if you jumped on the bandwagon in the past few months, that you will stay permanently and learn more about the team and the game of hockey. There are no better fans in sports, and now there's no better team in hockey.

See you next year.

Game 5

I just want to start by saying "I do not want a game 7". I do not know if I can handle it. But if there is one I will be there, Towelman and all.

As the games go on, the tickets get more expensive and our crew is dwindling. That's the sacrifice for trying to reach the Cup.  MikeyT and I start out at The Northstar  for some dinner and drinks. No Big Bob today but we have Mario and Smashley going to the game. As we head up the escalators to go into the game they are filming and I am sure we were on TV, either NESN pregame or the national Versus coverage. That dude had me on the escalator for three quarters of the ride and then screaming go Bruins. If he didn't use it well then it's his loss!

We get into our seats 10 minutes before the puck drops. Apparently, Phil the guy who screams every second of the B's games is no longer coming to games this season, as he puts their season tickets in jeopardy. You get spoken too by one usher for foul language and your family takes your tickets away? I am calling BULLSHIT!
There is a feeling of high anxiety from the crowd. They are loud yet apprehensive. Just over a minute into the game and the B's are down 1-0. You could feel the air being sucked out of the building for the next 5 minutes. But the crowd slowly gets back into it with a "LETS GO BRUINS" chant. The Garden is humming and you can feel like this may be our night. Timmy Thomas does what Timmy Thomas does and makes save after save. We are ONLY down 1-0 after 1. I can't honestly remember the B's taking any shots.

Albie couldn't make the game but his sister did and she wanted to touch  the Towelman pouch:
I mean who doesn't? Wayne-oh from the Garden staff even sought out Towelman to give him a fist pump.

The start of the second period has the B's buzzing and that can only be a good thing. A couple of dumb calls on Horton doesn't seem to slow their momentum. Horton more than makes up for his gaffes with a nice one timer, HORTON HEARS A HORN - WHOOOOOO!! MIKE SMITH WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFFS. The game is all tied up 1-1!( At this point the camera man officially hates Towelman. he will put everyone in our section up on the Jumbotron but me - I guess there is Towelman Hate out there people). After some hard work the B's finally take the lead on a goal by Brad Marshmont, B's up 2-1.

In between the 2nd and the 3rd period we are just hanging out when Dave Andreychuck, a former NHLer wants in on the Towelman action:

The action in the 3rd was fast. Tampa was doing anything it could to try and tie up the game. Thomas' save of the year with just over 10 minutes into the 3rd really amped up the team and the crowd. You could tell that Thomas would not let us lose. The final was 3-1 due to an empty netter from Rich Peverly. Let's hope they close this out tomorrow night in Tampa Bay. If not we are back at the Garden, Friday night for a Game 7 showdown.

LETS GO BRUINS!!

It was good to see Rajon Rondo and Bill Belicheck at the game last night.

Game 7 is in the books

Game 7 versus the Canadians. Its win or go home time.
This is how the day of drinking started out:
This guy was parked outside of Mcganns and told MikeyT that he didn't need any money. I mean some money could of at least got him a hotel room but with the Subway and orange juice at least he is fed!

I am sad to say that the Mcganns experience is dead, even though they have grown up happy meals from 11am to 3pm everyday, a burger, fries and a 16oz draft for $5.95. The place started out like a house of fire but in the end it fizzled out and was just a hot sweaty bar that had MIX 104.1 giving out stupid shit.Go suck on that one!

The crew rolling to the game is Big Bob w his 1992 Timex indiglo childs watch, Mario, Supah P, MikeyT, Brian Folan and myself. We were pulling out all the stops.  Making sure we were into the game before the puck drops, finding Jimmy,  MikeyT whoring himself out to all the fanphoto guys and gals plus making sure we secured as many towels as we could.

The crowd was into it. The place was rocking and every one was on the edge of their seats. We would not be disappointed, as the Bruins quickly built a 2-0 lead in the opening 5 minutes. Weren't we here last year game 7 versus the Flyers? Oh yeah we were and FUCKING CHRISSY JINXED THEM!! And as if on Que I get this text from Chrissy after the 2nd goal "It's all over, bring on philly!! Deegan u suck!" Lets just say it was not well received especially when Montreal scored on a power play, 2-1.

In between periods we meet up at the Hub bar but there is no Supah P or Folan. No big deal probably got caught up in a line(not that kind of line people) or something. They may not of met up but this guy did:
(note the picture of the picture on the camera phone on the left!)

The second period was just as intense as the 1st with the Canadians getting a short handed goal to tie it all up at 2. This game had tons of action, lots of hitting, and plenty of diving from the Canadians.

Back to the Hub bar and still no Supah P or Folan but we did get a prime table. We took some fanfotos(But they were not up at the time of this posting) and went back for 20 more minutes of action.

If we were going to win and move on, I felt like it had to be in the 3rd. The was a  feeling of anxiety running throughout the Garden. It was like everyone was on their edge of their seats waiting for Montreal to score a back breaking 3rd goal and pull out in front. After battling for 15 minutes Chris "The Garbageman" Kelly put the B's ahead 3-2. The place went bonkers. Cats hugging dogs, lesbians kissing straight men, black was now white and hell froze over. Just over 4 minutes to go and all we have to do is hold on. We can move on to Philly! Somewhere in the back of our heads we all knew it was too good to be true. They hadn't had a power play in a whi....ooops spoke to soon. Power Play and GOAL for PK FUCKING SUBBAN! ONE MINUTE AND FIFTY THREE SECONDS IS ALL WE NEEDED TO MOVE ON! UGGGHHHH. The air just got sucked out of the building. That creeping inevitability washing over the 17,565 in attendance. We just played one of the best games ever and we may fucking lose. Sudden death overtime, where one goal ends a season and one goal propels someone to be a hero for the city. What will it be Bruins? Feast or famine? Win or go home?

We are heading to Philadephia bitches. I am not a fan of the whole revenge angle. I am not going to say we owe these guys from last year. What happened last year was just that LAST YEAR. What I do know is someone needs to tell Lucic to get his head out of his own ass and for the next 2 days they should practice nothing but getting traffic in front of the net. Also can the kid get to suit up for a game or two? He can do everything that I have seen Soupy and Thornton do.

Till my next game kids...12 more wins to the Cup.

P.S. the reason Supah P and Folan were no shows?? Dudes were upstairs getting free beers - YES FREE BEERS!!

B's vs Habs

I just want to start out by letting everyone know that Jeffrey was on fire last night. Everything the kid did and said was gasoline!

I can't believe there are only 8 games left before the playoffs start. Time flies when you are having fun I guess. Not only was last nights game against the dirty hated Canadians but it also may of been a playoff preview. If the season ended today the Bruins would finish in 3rd and Montreal in 6th. Needless to say I WAS FUCKING GIDDY!

I met up with Welchie, Jeffrey and MikeyT at Mcgann's for some pre-game cocktails. Sadly, Rio and Big Bob didn't go to the game but we got Albie and his brother in law. That's not really a fair trade but what the hell - the more the merrier.WEEI was at the bar and their trivia question was what 2 numbers between 1 and 10 are NOT retired by the Bruins. Some fool won with 1 and 6 but Jeffrey (Told you he was on fire) goes well 10s not retired and that's between 1 and 10 so your question is bad. The guys response was only single digit numbers. Uhm then that would be between 1 and 9 there budso. No wonder no one likes WEEI anymore.

You remember Shawn, the bartender/magician? I had to check in with him and ask how Pats party was. From what I was told, Shawn showed up at the party to preform his show at 9pm and apparently Pat had already been removed from his own party for being shit faced. Sounds about right.

There weren't as many Montreal fans as there usually are. Bunch of pussies were probably afraid of all the shit they would take from the B's fans.

Looks like Jimmy is back bitches:

Welchie and MikeyT were in Lodge 19 while Jeffrey had secured us seats in Lodge 11:

The B's showed up right from the drop of the puck. Just over a minute into the game Johnny Bombchuck let one rip right past Carey Price(Who would name their SON Carey? Thats a chicks name) and you could feel the whole building let out a collected sigh. Montreal just didn't seem to have it. The B's beat them to loose pucks, out worked and out skated them all over the ice. As they say the puck was bouncing the B's way at every point. Soupy(Gregory Cambell) scored a typical scrappy goal with about 7 minutes left in the 1st period and Nathan Horton heard a WOO with 2 and half minutes left. After 1 the B's are up 3-0 and I didn't miss one goal. Off to the Hub bar between periods. I think at this point Albie is all jacked up. He looks gray, his eyes are half open and I think he mumbled "rubble rubble ree" at me.

Halfway through the 2nd period they start trying to find the fan of the game. As they are zooming around the Garden they happen upon theGROWN MAN who is sitting in front of MikeyT and Welchie - BLAMMO them 2 fools are up on the big screen. Jeffrey has this on his camera and I'll share the picture when he down loads it. As Jeffrey was putting his camera away the lady next to him smashed into him, spilling his beer into his lap, down his leg and all over her.  Needless to say he was wet for the rest of the night. There was a weak fight between Mara and Soupy but nothing too exciting happening in peroid 2 except Welch and I dominated the Tune Trivia and MikeyT losing helmet shuffle for the 1st time in 4 years! On the way back to the Hub bar, Albie is running past me to go see Black Kerry and get his free beer. Thank god for small miracles. He looked like he had more color this time around. MUST BE SOME REALLY GOOD BEER! We all decide to throw up 5 bucks each for the 50/50 raffle. Needless to say we didn't win.

The 3rd period is high action. Back to back goals from Horton(2) and Mcquaid. Lots of hitting from the team in black and gold. After a goal from Kaberle the B's found themselves shorthanded 5 to 3 but with a tipped pass by Soupy and a burst of speed up ice,  he buried the B's 7th goal of the night.

This was one of the best games ever. The B's were on it and if they keep up this kind of play through the rest of the season they should be able to get far in the playoffs.

The night wasn't over though. There was talk about karaoke and how Jeffrey needs to work on a new song so we head to the Philips Old Colony House. The crowd was not into it at all. It kind of felt like we crashed someones lame party. We finished our drinks and moved onto the next bar, The Cathay Pacific.

Now this is more our speed. If you have never been to this place, it is like the bar in Star Wars. A mix of every creed and and every nation. Unfortunately, we didn't get the memo that this place is LEGIT. I think we may of stumbled upon Karaoke Idol or some shit. People were working the crowd. No one was looking at  the screen. Songs were being sung that I had never heard. This shit was heading down fast. Jeffrey is starting to get dejected, little did he know Welchie had an ace up his sleeve. A go-to place  back from when he was blacking out on weekends and waking up in various ladies beds. The Cafe De Paris over at the Common Market.

At this point I am sheenfaced (yes Charlie Sheen fucked up) and I probably couldn't tell you anything about the place but the karaoke crowd welcomed Jeffrey with open arms. He waited while people sang their shit but he was itching. He was debating a new song or his old stand by - These Eyes by the Guess Who. These Eyes won out. Needless to say he brought down the house. Cougars were cat calling him,  I think the Karaoke DJ gave him the eye, and there was talks of shots. Shots didn't happen and we left at 12:30. We banged out some late night Wendys and crashed. I would say this was an overall great day

Bruins get it done

I know that I said I would be blogging after every Bruins game that I attended but I got lazy(or was it hungover) and have been slacking. Then at darts some of the guys say that I don't write enough or that I don't update enough. So I guess I am all around not keeping up my end of the blogging-reader relationship. Like anything else in life I will try harder.

Last night MikeyT and I headed to the B's game. Who would of known back in October, that the Bruins would be battling the Tampa Bay Lightning for second place in the east this late into the season? The winner would also be 3 points back of the Philadelphia Flyers for 1st over all.

I think we found a new routine before the games. We have been getting an early dinner at the Grand Canal the past few games but we were still without an actual boozing bar. Throughout the season we have tried Beerworks, Northstar, the Harp and Sully's Tap but they just didn't have that good pregame vibe. Yesterday after having yet another great meal at the Grand Canal we were headed to Northstar to get our drink on but when we got there they weren't even open yet. I mean what kind of bar isn't open at 4:15 on game day? So we headed to...McGanns. We've been to this place often to eat but never really to pregame/drink and I don't know why not. We were welcomed at the bar like we had been coming there for years. Our new friend Patrick(from Quincy who likes to get into fights, drink beers and only follows the B's) invited us to his retirement party from Citizens bank tonight at The Point starting at 5. He even hired Sean(the bartender/magician) to put on a show for the ladies and make balloon animals. Patrick also fancies himself a Wes Welker doppelganger and currently started dating Kim, a week is a long long time in Patrick Welkers life. I know you are probably thinking "man you must of been hanging with Patrick and Sean all night" but this is all information that we received within 5 minutes of entering the bar. How could we not commit to this as the new pregame spot. Not to mention the beers are $4 and Mike G stops by when he misses his commuter rail train. All wins in my book and my heart.

Anyways onto the game. It was grocery bag night at the Garden. There were lots on Canadians in the crowd, not Canadian fans but Canadian people. I think it was to support all the French Canadians on the Tampa team. Tyler Seguin was a healthy scratch so that Daniel Paille could get some skate. They debuted a new Bruins opening and sadly Ozzie is no loner in it.

The beer lines were never long and that always makes me smile. I bumped into my friend Kelly who was running late to give out the grocery bags and she told me that Jack Daniels may want to be involved with the mustache pub crawl. I told her to give them me a call or hit me up on FB.

I am not going to lie, the crowd was kind of flat to start out the game but it slowly started to build. By the end of the 1st period the place was on fire. Tomas Kaberle doesn't show up in the stat sheet but he played his ass off, I am feeling better about that trade. Mike Smith, their goalie, played like he was the second coming of Patrick Roy or at least he thought he was.

Tim Thomas played lights out and let in a screened shot in the second period but other than that he was on top of his game. Also in the second period, Milan Lucic returned to the ring against Eric Brewer(who I just found out didn't sign with Dallas Mavericks), the fight was longer than it needed to be - win Lucic. With the B's down 1-0 Steve Kampfer tied it up with a blast from the blue line. After 2 periods they were all knotted up.

The third period featured some hard hits and some really good hockey. The Bruins battled for every puck and at times it seemed like Tampa Bay was just too fast but with just over 3 minutes left Lucic buried one top fatso. The place erupted, I was high fiveing everyone and anyone, Blades was rocking and rolling and I was smiling like a little kid. It was the first time in 3 seasons where I was at a game and I didn't miss a goal. I saw Tampa's goal and the two by the B's.  Winner winner chicken dinner.

On a side note: They kept showing a guy on the big screen with a sign that just said 35 lbs. I couldn't figure it out so I asked Mikey T and he goes matter-of-factly: "the weight of the Stanley Cup". I felt like such a dummy but hey you learn something everyday.

My next game is March 29th against last years Stanley Cup winning Chicago Blackhawks and now you'll know where I'll be.

The weekend

The Garden was rocking last night.

Even with Steven Tyler's terrible performance of the National Anthem. Where the hell was Rene??

After some persuasion from my fellow Bruins fans, I will be posting some Bruins game recaps but only to the games that I actually attend. I will not be doing this for games I watch at the bar or while my fat ass is on the couch. Agreed? Good!

Since DJ's is now North Star and none of our friends work there we were on a search for a new pregame hang out. We started off at Beer works - nah not really feeling it. We moved along to Sullys Tap, which coincidentally recently received a Best of Boston award for Best Bruins pregame. The crowd was a mixture of suits and B's fans. I have always held a soft spot for Sullys because they used to have the cheapest beers around. Now just like everyone else they rape you on beer prices. Rio, Big Bob, Paget(or is it Patches), Albie and Big John Manning were all trying North Star out so we headed over there. They slapped some paint on the walls and hired some new waitresses and bartenders but overall its the same joint just worse. The bar was crowded and the staff were overwhelmed. Maybe they will work the kinks out but don't hold your breath.

A buddy of mine listens to Carson & Kennedy in the morning and all he kept telling me was Kennedy will be at the Greatest bar. Well we didn't make it to the Greatest but to the delight of my buddy Kennedy was spotted on the escalator. It was free schedule magnet night, MikeyT got 5.

There was a general excitement in the air at the game. People were talking/arguing the finer points of the team - Tuukka or Thomas, is Jordan Caron's last name pronounced - Karen or Cah-ron, Asparagus or Artichoke, How good will Seguin be, and is Nathan Horton for real.
Needless to say I had a great time.
MikeyT called Caron's goal before the tip off.
I still have not met the guy who owns the seats next to ours.
Alex is back slinging drinks and hitting on white women.
Plus I was not in our seats for any of the goals but I did see 3 of the 4. Goal 1 - in beer line(saw on monitor), Goal 2 - stuck on the ramp to get back to the seats(saw it on the jumbotron), Goal 3 - drinking at the table waiting on the boys(saw it on NESN) and Goal 4 - in the bathroom. So now the whole section thinks I am a goal mush. They could be right.

The game was terrific. I didn't think we would beat the Caps in back to back games. If the B's can keep up this intensity it will be a great year. Nothing short of a Stanley Cup appearance is in order.

Hopefully next game we will have a better pregame experience.

*Quick side note - I usually catch at least one Caps game a year but this year there were tons of Russians in the crowd to see Ovie but mostly wearing B's gear. There were Canadian Russians at Sullys Tap and one of them was a Bizzaro Smiddy.

Now it is onto the weekend kick off. Chrissy asked for Alyssa Milano so that is who we got. If you want to kick off the weekend with someone let me know.
